Cantacordi Trio

Bach to the Beatles

The Cantacordi Trio features Mike Bardsley on piano, Sue Collins on violin and Lyndsay Winpenny on cello. Their name – a variation of “The Singing Strings” reflects their origins as a trio: they met up and started playing together largely through their membership of the Wychwood Chorale, a West Oxfordshire based choir.

Mike is a pianist and harpsichordist who studied at Dartington College of Arts and has played in many ensembles over the years as well as giving solo harpsichord recitals, most recently at the Bate Collection and Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, as well as in Westbury in 2017 and 2018.

Sue started playing the violin aged eleven and played in the Essex Youth orchestra. She now enjoys playing in a variety of ensembles and also plays in Cirencester Philharmonic, Chandos Symphony Orchestra and Cambiata Strings.

Lyndsay has also been playing the cello since she was eleven and has been a member of several orchestras, including the LuxPhil, an amateur orchestra based in Luxembourg. She is a long-standing member of the Burford Orchestra, as well as several local ensembles in Oxfordshire. Both Sue and Lyndsay have immensely enjoyed returning to playing as career and family commitments have permitted.

The Trio plays an eclectic mix of styles, ranging from baroque trio sonatas, which call on Mike’s skills as a harpsichordist, through the classical repertoire of piano trios, to palm court-style arrangements of modern pieces, including show songs, 20th-century classics, jazz and pop. This recital, coined “Bach to the Beatles” reflects the Trio’s enjoyment of many different musical genres.
