John Law’s Re-Creations

John Law“One of the UK’s most imaginative and versatile jazz pianists”  International Piano Magazine 2014was a hugely popular performer at the festival a few years ago and now he’s back! He has put together a stunning new group of young musicians, playing arrangements of other people’s tunes.

Started in 2016, Re-Creations began as a fun project with the aim of playing lots of different tunes from different genres.  In a move away from electronics to the purely acoustic, Re-Creations present music not just from the standard jazz repertoire but also from pop and indie.

The quartet’s repertoire includes, as well as jazz classics like Monk, Miles Davis, Gershwin, tunes from pop/rock/indie (Beatles, Adele, Daft Punk, Michael Jackson, Radiohead).  Also gradually, classical pieces started appearing in the group’s repertoire such as their version of the Kyrie from Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle and Satie’s Gymnopedie.

Featuring Parliamentary Jazz award winner, Sam Crockatt on saxophones, James Agg on double bass, Paolo Adamo on drums and of course John on piano/keyboard.

I can’t remember a better jazz gig! Breathtaking!
