Tours of Leighton House (AOSB)

In past years, one of our most popular events have been tours around the Army Officer Selection Board (AOSB). The selection board (formerly the Regular Commissions Board) has been in Westbury since 1949 – and despite regular threats of closure, it is still here.

Festival friend, well-regarded military historian and former Vice-President of the Selection Board, Lt Colonel (Rt’d) Andrew Field has again kindly offered to lead a small number of tours around the house and estate and the  Phipps & Laverton families who were residents. Andrew has done a great deal of research into the house and the army’s use of it, and being a former VP, he knows all about the operation of the boards.

The tours will take place on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th if there is sufficient demand.

Saturday tours are at: 9:30, 11:00, 14:00, 15:30

Update:

Most of the Saturday tours are full so we are adding further tours on Sunday at: 9:30, 11:00, 14:00, 15:30

You must leave your contact details when booking (you will be denied entry without this information )and bring photo ID on the day. Also note that there is no parking on the site (arrive on foot) . Tickets are not available from the AOSB directly.  Please note that there is significant walking around the house and grounds so this tour may not be suitable for those who have mobility difficulties.

NB this is an operational military site and subject to closure if necessary.
